How will Kansas basketball fans remember Josh Jackson?
By Stan Unruh
Kansas basketball fans enjoyed Josh Jackson’s one and done season. How will fans remember this young man’s brief time in Lawrence?
Josh Jackson will soon be a wealthy professional basketball player. He compiled a long list of on the court accomplishments for Kansas Basketball.
The Big 12 conference awarded Jackson the Newcomer of the Week seven times during the season.
No Kansas basketball player has won the award more than Jackson.
Thanks to averaging just over 16 points and 7 rebounds a game Jackson earned a Wooden All-America selection and picked up the Big 12 Freshman of the Year award.
Among the one and done Jayhawks, Jackson is my favorite.
Jackson thrilled fans far and wide. He also did some things he probably regrets.
Many college freshman could say the same. Josh Jackson is just a kid.
We saw Jackson’s emotions on display several times during the basketball season. He paid for it with extended time on the bench. I thought Bill Self and the Kansas basketball staff did an outstanding job helping him learn to control himself during games.
Now he must learn to control his emotions away from the court.
Only those who were there know what actually happened that night. We were told the woman involved, a KU woman’s basketball player, was as much at fault as Jackson.
That’s no excuse. Jackson needs to make the very most of this diversion.

The news is full of stories on athletes and violence and not just in the Big 12 Conference. Kansas basketball had a tough year in the press.
It is embarrassing and I don’t want to read any more of it.
I will remember Jackson for his high-flying basketball skills and that he paid price and hopefully learned from his antics outside a bar.
