Spring football is behind us. From what we learned, is Kansas football facing a more difficult conference schedule than last season?

On April 15, we learned a little about Kansas football’s hopes for this fall. However, there are so many unanswered questions.

Is there one quarterback who can get the job done? Is the defensive secondary up to the task? Who will be the surprise star among the receiving corps?

Spring games also provide an opportunity for David Beaty and the Kansas football staff to learn some about the team’s he will face in Big 12 play.

There is some love for the Big 12 in early post-spring game national rankings. Sure, it’s a long way from the first Saturday in September. That’s what makes it fun.

Stewart Mandel of Fox Sports has an interesting list of the Top-25. He has a couple of the usual teams at the top.

I was pleasantly surprised he also included four Big 12 teams in the Top-15.

I don’t agree with some on his list but it’s nice to see somebody give some positive attention to Big 12 football.

As a matter of fact, if Mandel is correct, Kansas football could have a much more difficult schedule this fall.

Oklahoma is on Mandel’s lists in the top-10.  I doubt they live up to that expectation.

In addition, Oklahoma State is also in his top-10. I think Mike Gundy’s Cowboys will be that good and more. They are loaded and if they stay healthy, look out.

I was very surprised Mandel listed Kansas State at 14. That spring game in Manhattan was dreadful. Many of the starters were out with or recovering from injury this spring. I think the ‘Cat defense is going to have trouble.

Equally important, West Virginia rounds out his top-15.

Fortunately, the only road game for Kansas among this group of Big-12 games is in Stillwater to end the season.
