With the end of another college basketball season comes the start of another Transfer Portal window, and Kansas head coach Bill Self has his work cut out for him this offseason. After announcing his return to the Jayhawks for another season, Self will certainly return to work quickly, trying to bring players in from the portal.
Some Kansas players, like others around college basketball whose seasons are over, have already announced their intention to enter the portal. For Kansas, Self could be looking for an entirely new starting lineup for the 2026-2027 season.
As the portal opens and players continue to enter as well as decide where to transfer to, this Transfer Portal tracker will be updated with the news. Here is what is known as of now.
Kansas players departing for the Transfer Portal
Flory Bidunga
Flory Bidunga will actually test the NBA Draft waters just a bit, but it is expected that he will withdraw from the process and fully enter the transfer portal. Bidunga announced he would do this nearly a week before the portal even opened.
This is a big loss for Self and the Jayhawks as Bidunga was a huge source of scoring in the paint for Kansas this past season, averaging 13.3 points per game, 9.0 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks.
Bryson Tiller
The announcement of Bryson Tiller on the portal came just one day before it opened, and it shocked many. The Bidunga news had some feeling that Tiller would truly be able to step up next season and be the big man Kansas needed, but instead, he plans to head elsewhere.
Tiller is another big loss for Kansas as he was the counterpart to Bidunga and a part of the starting lineup for the Jayhawks. While Tiller's stats didn't jump off the page, he was a was consistent with 7.9 points per game, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks.
Paul Mbiya
Paul Mboya announced alongside Tiller that he would enter the transfer portal as Kansas loses yet another big man this offseason. Mbiya was a bench player Self used sparingly, but made an impact when in the game. The big man averaged just 1.2 points per game and 1.4 rebounds in 21 games this season.
Elmarko Jackson
Elmarko Jackson is the latest Jayhawk to enter the transfer portal, and this really is a tough one for Bill Self. The Kansas head coach was probably hoping for some retention, but at this point, the only other player sticking around with solid minutes is Jamari McDowell.
Jackson was one of the first players off the bench for Kansas this season, averaging 17.8 minutes a game as well as 4.8 points. The sophomore will now look for a new home in college basketball, probably leaving Bill Self scratching his head.
Players Kansas landed out of the Transfer Portal
The college basketball Transfer Portal is set to open Tuesday, April 7.
Kansas players out of eligibility
Melvin Council Jr.
Melvin Council Jr. is still hoping to try to get one more year of eligibility, but as of right now, his Kansas days are over. Council was the pleasant surprise for Kansas fans this season, stepping up a lot whenever Darryn Peterson was out of the lineup. As a leader on this team, Councill will be sorely missed, but so will his 12.7 points per game, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.1 assists.
Tre White
Tre White is another senior Kansas wishes could come back for another year. White was the second-leading scorer for the Jayhawks this season, averaging 13.5 points per game. While at times White struggled with his game, he was still a force ont he court and a big hole for Self to fill.
Jayden Dawson
Jayden Dawson appeared in 24 games for Kansas this season, averaging 2.1 points per game, and is out of eligibility for his college career.
Nginyu Ngala
Nginyu Ngala appeared in only 12 games for the Jayhawks this season, averaging 1.3 points per game and 3.3 minutes per game.
