Ahead of KU’s match against Oklahoma State this past Saturday, CBS Sports paid homage to Allen Fieldhouse in honor of the historic building’s 70th anniversary.

In a four-minute video shared on social media, clips were shown from some of the most iconic games and moments in Kansas basketball history. Some of those included Jacque Vaughn’s 360-layup against UCLA, Thomas Robinson’s block against Missouri in 2012, and many others.

“Voice of the Jayhawks” Brian Hanni was the first speaker in the video, and he compared the home of KU basketball to some of the most iconic venues in collegiate and professional sports.

“This is one of the crown jewels in all of American sports culture,” Hanni said. “This is right up there with Lambeau and Wrigley and Fenway.”

“You feel like the walls actually sweat,” said head coach Bill Self.

Former KU greats were interviewed for the video as well, including Danny Manning and Wayne Simien. The tribute also featured Warren Corman – the last living architect of Allen Fieldhouse.

But perhaps the best moment of the feature came from former Kansas basketball coach Roy Williams when he likened the building to a close friendship.

“Allen Fieldhouse is sort of like one of your best friends, and when they mention your best friend’s name you know what you do? You smile.”
