All is well for the No. 11 Kansas Jayhawks, something you wouldn’t have said even a month ago. As injuries rid star Darryn Peterson, and the team was stumbling out of the blocks of Big 12 play.
Since that 1-2 conference start, the Jayhawks have rattled off six straight wins, three of them against AP top 25-ranked teams, reasserting their potential as March looms.
Breaking a massive duct
When the final buzzer sounded ahead of Kansas’ latest 64-61 win over the No. 13 Texas Tech Red Raiders, of course, the conversation was always going to revolve around the two clutch three-pointers that Peterson knocked down, but the bigger story of the night was the fact that Monday night marked Kansas’ first away win against a ranked team since February 2024, when the Jayhawks beat the No. 25 Oklahoma Sooners in a 67-57 win.
Which win has been the most important during Kansas' resurgence?
Over the last six wins, the Jayhawks took down No. 2 Iowa State in a blowout 84-63 win, No. 13 BYU in a 90-82 win, and the aforementioned win over Texas Tech. Each one has its own reason to be that spark that makes the Jayhawks look as good as they do right now.
The win over the Cyclones stopped Kansas’ slide against an Iowa State team that was undefeated up to that point.
Kansas’ win over BYU was supposed to be the duel between potential top picks AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson; however, they both endured their own struggles, which made the game stall out towards the end.
And the Jayhawks’ latest trip to Lubbock, Texas, (while not as pretty as the other matchups) showed a resolve away from home that fans had rightly questioned up to that point.
Up next for the Jayhawks is a two-game home stint at Allen Fieldhouse as the 9-13 Utah Utes come to town, before Kansas hosts the No. 1 team in the country, the Arizona Wildcats.
