Paul Pierce spent three years in Lawrence with the Kansas Jayhawks from 1995-1998, averaging 16.4 PPG and 6.3 RPG with KU, becoming a Consensus All-American in his final season at Kansas. Following that, he had an illustrious NBA career with the Boston Celtics, but the Celts got him into quite a pickle following their game 2 loss at home to the New York Knicks.

After blowing a 20-point lead in game 1 of the series versus the Knicks, Paul Pierce was asked about his confidence level in entering game 2 on the show Speak on FS1. He responded in a hilarious, yet now regrettable way:

Well fast forward to Wednesday night and the Celtics not only lost, but once again blew a 20-point lead to New York, falling down 0-2 in the series and proving Pierce wrong. What The Truth did next blew people’s minds though… He actually followed through on walking the 20.2 miles to work from his house in a robe, mapping out the distance the night before:

Along the way, he was updating his fans on social medias and we even saw a cameo from fellow Celtics legend, Kevin Garnett who drove by Pierce in his car while he was about halfway to the studio. Garnett also give him a kind "you be careful out here!":

Pierce completed the 20.2 mile trip ahead of schedule and in high spirits

Pierce ended up completing the projected 8-hour and 2-minute 20.2 mile walk in around 7 hours. Not too shabby for the retired 47-year-old! He live streamed his arrival with a cheerful ā€œI made it!ā€ emphasizing that he’s ā€œnever doing this againā€ even though it felt like he ā€œaccomplished something greatā€ with with walk of shame:

When a bystander asked if Pierce actually completed the full trip on foot, or if he took a couple Ubers along the way as well, the former Jayhawk responded with ā€œI’m The Truth. No capā€. Pierce capped off his walk of shame entering the live show in a wheelchair, obviously poking fun at himself for his infamous wheelchair chair back in his NBA career:

Ultimately, Pierce proved to be a man of his word (for the most part). Sure he did not make the 20.2 mile trip with no shoes on, barefoot, but the fact that he even did the walk itself is legendary and exactly why Kansas basketball fans loved Pierce when he was in Lawrence. He is truly one of a kind!

It also feels same to assume that Pierce will not be making any other outlandish statements or bets on his Boston Celtics any time soon.Ā
