The Kansas basketball team is almost complete, with just two empty spots left on the 15-player roster. The offseason started off a bit roughly for the Jayhawks with all but two eligible players abandoning the program via the transfer portal.
With an almost completely rehauled roster, there are plenty of new faces and names to get to know. This team has several fun names—names that are fun to say or project an image (think Flory Bidunga). There are several cool names on this roster, too.
No offense meant to Trent (Perry), Paul (though Mbiya is fun!), Christian (Reeves), Dennis (Parker Jr.), or Grant (Mordini). Those are all strong names, and, hopefully, some will carve out legendary statuses at KU.
Some names that are pretty cool are Taylen (Kinney) and Tyran (Stokes), but they are relatively similar. Will one or the other go by Ty? Who knows?
Kohl Rosario rolls off the tongue pretty well, but Kohl is a dark cosmetic that darkens the areas around the eyes. Sorry, Kohl. We still love you, but you're not making the final three.
Leroy (Blyden Jr.) carries some weight, as being one of the baddest (coolest) names in the whole darn town, to paraphrase a song. You can imagine a player with this name being tough as nails. Still, it falls just short of the top three.
Three coolest names on the Kansas basketball team
No. 3: Davion (Adkins)
Davion. The name projects coolness, versatility, and smoothness. Someone with the name Davion is going to move around the court with grace and attack the basket with skill.
It's not a name you hear very often, and that just adds to the coolness. It's unique and just slides off the tongue. There aren't many names as silky smooth as this one.
No. 2: Keanu (Dawes)
Keanu is a name that carries with it the gravitas and cool factor of the most famous person with that name. The actor Keanu Reeves has made a career of being cool, and his Jayhawk namesake has a lot to live up to.
Keanu Dawes needs to be cool and tough. The Jayhawks need someone tough and ready to handle anything, an enforcer. If you hear the name Keanu, you automatically think “cool.”
No. 1: Atticus (Richmond)
The newest Jayhawk also has the coolest name. With Atticus, you can imagine a Roman warrior who you want to go into battle with by your side. The name projects toughness and fierceness.
Of course, it also carries with it the cool factor of being a hero. The most famous Atticus (Finch) is one of the greatest literary and cinematic heroes of all time. He was someone who fought for injustice and showed toughness to be admired.
Atticus Richmond has a cool name, but it is a hard one to live up to. KU fans will hope he is as much of a warrior as his name suggests.
While this has all been in fun, KU fans must be patient to see all of these heroes, regardless of their names, give their all for the crimson and blue next fall.
