Social media reacts to gut-wrenching Kansas football loss to Arizona State
Kansas football continues to disappoint its fans week in and week out, constantly coming up with different and new ways to lose games. Saturday's defeat to Arizona State was one of the worst yet, as the Jayhawks led until the Sun Devils scored a go-ahead touchdown with 16 seconds remaining in the contest.
Jayhawk fans are fed up with the poor defense and offensive play-calling. Lance Leipold's group has lost five in a row, and bowl eligibility is already out of the question. It's safe to say that people were not holding back their thoughts after the loss, so we compiled some of the best social media reactions on X that we found:
Social media reacts to Kansas football loss vs. Arizona State
Many fans believe an internal change must be made immediately. Tommy Castor wrote: "I’m a Lance Leipold fan. Have been since day one. If he doesn’t fire staff by tomorrow, then I’m out and he’s officially the problem. It could be Jeff Grimes, Brian Borland or h***, both of them for all I care. This is a complete and utter dumpster fire for Kansas."
"I genuinely cannot watch this anymore. It’s evident that we are not a well managed team. And that’s on this coaching staff. It’s even more evident that our OC can’t run down a clock when we’re airmailing the ball with 34yds left and 2 to go. Run the ball and clock down. Awful," a user said.
Unsurprisingly, K-State fans are even chiming in on the matter. "Lance Leipold is now 18-26 with one bowl win in 4.5 seasons at KU and makes 7 million per year. Make it make sense," someone wrote.
Others want the blame to be redirected from offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes to defensive coordinator Brian Borland after the defense collapsed yet again. "Kansas is sitting with the 3rd most points in conference play, and people are calling for Grimes head. Borland deserves to be on just as hot of a seat," Max Merriman said. "This defense has choked at the end of the last 10 halves of the last 5 games. Fire Borland," another person said.
Finally, a KU fan said: "The season has been over, it’s just time to lose out. Fortunately scheduled a D2 team in that first week or probably wouldn’t have won a game."
