In front of a packed house inside Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena in Lawrence, the No. 10-ranked Kansas Jayhawks took down No. 6 Purdue Boilermakers in four sets (3-1) in the teams’ first match of the 2024 Jayhawk Classic.

London Davis – one of KU’s many stellar seniors – led the Jayhawks with 22 kills. Fellow senior Camryn Turner also had a big night with 59 assists (tying her career high) and 17 digs, while senior Caroline Bien finished with 14 kills and 13 digs and senior Ayah Elnady chipped in 14 kills and two blocks.

Reigning Big 12 Rookie of the Week and freshman Zoey Burgess continued her impressive run lately as she tied her career high in kills with eight.

Davis, Elnady, and Turner (unanimous selection) were all named to the 2024 Preseason All-Big 12 Team while Burgess was selected as Preseason Freshman of the Year.

All four players have lived up to the hype thus far this season, and the Jayhawks look every bit the part of the Preseason Big 12 favorite they were voted.

Now, after defeating No. 6 Purdue in the fashion that they did, the Jayhawks are starting to look like real national championship contenders.

Earlier this season, Kansas defeated South Carolina (8-2), then-ranked No. 24 Marquette, and a slew of other teams before defeating Purdue and reaching 8-0 on the season.

Add in the fact that traditional powerhouses such as Texas and Wisconsin have struggled early on to start the year with both programs sitting at 3-3 – combined with KU’s stellar home court advantage – and there is no reason to think that this Kansas team can’t compete with the best of the best and put themselves in position to make a deep run in the postseason.

KU will have a chance to add to their resume this weekend as they face Tulsa (8-2) on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and No. 9 Creighton (7-2) on Saturday at 3 p.m. Both games can be streamed on ESPN+.
