Every year in college football, numerous teams go unnoticed heading into the season. There are always a handful of breakout players who guide their squads to success that no one else saw coming. Given the new 12-team College Football Playoff and the prominence of the transfer portal, parity in the NCAA is at an all-time high. Any school can have a breakout campaign.

While the Kansas football team has relatively high expectations in 2024, some analysts don't think the expectations are high enough. Pro Football Network's Dalton Wasserman listed the Jayhawks as one of the four most underrated teams in the sport, along with Big 12 newcomers Arizona and Georgia Tech/Indiana. We totally agree with his point of view.

This PFF writer gave Kansas some well-deserved recognition, calling them one of the most underrated teams in the NCAA. Most betting sites and news outlets have the Jayhawks projected third, fourth, or fifth in the conference this upcoming season, while others even predict they will reach the Big 12 Championship game.

HC Lance Leipold has an opportunity to build something special in Lawrence, Kansas, after over a decade of abysmal Jayhawk football. Star signal caller Jalon Daniels will look to stay healthy alongside other electric players such as Devin Neal and Cobee Bryant. KU is looking to build on a 9-4 season in which they defeated UNLV in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl.

With premier programs Texas and Oklahoma off to the SEC, there will be less competition at the top of the conference. Additionally, KU has one of the easiest schedules in the new-look Big 12, which should bode well for its chances to make the title game. It is worth noting that the Big 12 champion receives an auto-bid to the CFP.
