Updated Kansas Jayhawks basketball depth chart after Zeke Mayo, Riley Kugel additions
While the offseason is just a few weeks in, the Kansas basketball program has already reeled in two highly touted transfers. The Jayhawks are also bringing in three high school recruits. As of today, there are 12 players on the roster, the maximum number KU can have as it enters the final year of its self-imposed scholarship reduction.
Jayhawk supporters should still expect a few players to depart for the portal or the NBA Draft in the coming weeks. However, each Jayhawk currently on the roster could wind up staying at Kansas. If the season were to begin today, here is how the depth chart would look.
Point Guard
1. Dajuan Harris
2. Elmarko Jackson
3. Labaron Philon
4. Jamari McDowell
Harris will undoubtedly start at point guard like he has for the past three seasons. He has averaged 34.2 and 35.7 minutes per game across the past two campaigns, respectively, and should continue to see a similar workload in his final year of eligibility.
Jackson looked much better in a ball-handling role as a freshman, and Self will likely continue to experiment with him in different roles if he stays. Philon is a natural point guard who could have a long-term future with the program, but he will struggle to see playing time this year with Harris ahead of him. McDowell would only see time at point guard for defense or to close the first half.
