The Kansas basketball team is entering the preseason as arguably the top team in the NCAA for the second year in a row. Head coach Bill Self assembled a championship-caliber roster after the Jayhawks finished the previous season with a disappointing loss in the Round of 32.

While the return of superstar center Hunter Dickinson and transfer additions Zeke Mayo and Rylan Griffen quickly made KU a title contender, former Wisconsin guard AJ Storr could be the X-factor on this squad. He is a big guard who can score in various ways and excels with the ball in his hands. However, the incoming junior has no plans of continuing his collegiate career once the campaign concludes.

AJ Storr plans to enter NBA Draft after the upcoming season

"Yes, I’m planning to be in the draft next year."

During an interview with SLAM, the Illinois native revealed he will be a one-and-done Jayhawk. On draft day in June, he acknowledged that he plans to be up on the stage one year from now, which would be the 2025 draft. Storr's last college game will come this year at KU.

This isn't necessarily a big surprise for Kansas supporters. We know how diverse his offensive skill set is, and he has the physical tools to become a solid player at the next level. Having him for his final year of eligibility would have been nice, but it appears that won't happen.

After transferring from St. John's, Storr blossomed into a star, averaging a team-leading 16.8 points per game on the No. 5-seeded Wisconsin Badgers. He is a 6-foot-6 guard who should immediately step into a starting role at Kansas.

In a way, this could be a good thing for the Jayhawks. He will play with a chip on his shoulder and give maximum effort all season to fulfill his dreams of playing at the next level. And as talented as Storr is, Coach Self has shown time and time again that he is one of the best transfer portal recruiters in the nation and can find a replacement.

Of course, unexpected setbacks (such as an injury) could occur throughout a college basketball season, so we'll never say he is 100% gone. But from the sounds of it, Jayhawk fans shouldn't expect Storr to stay in Lawrence past the 2024-25 campaign.
