Last year, Kansas basketball fans were given an offseason treat when the school's alumni team (Mass Street) competed in The Basketball Tournament (TBT). After claiming one of the four No. 1 seeds, they defeated We Are D3 and the Show Me Squad (Mizzou Alumni Team) in the first two rounds before losing to Heartfire in the Sweet 16.

They are running it back starting July 19 for the 2024 edition. Some players from the previous tournament returned to Mass Street, while others will not participate again. However, Jayhawk fans might be surprised to see one player that was added to the roster. Former Kansas star Frank Mason III is one of the nine players that Mass Street features on the TBT website.

The nine-player roster consists of: Frank Mason III, Dedric Lawson, Thomas Robinson, Jamari Traylor, Kevin Young, Lagerald Vick, Malik Newman, Mario Little, Silvio de Sousa, and Travis Releford as the general manager.

During his time at Kansas, Mason cemented himself as one of the best point guards in school history. He won the Wooden Award in his senior year and led his squad to an Elite Eight appearance. Lawson, Newman, and de Sousa are all new additions to Mass Street, while Robinson, Traylor, Young, and Vick are returning from one year ago.

Given that there are nine players right now, there will likely be a few more guys added. Marcus and Markieff Morris have yet to be announced as the head coaches, but they served in that position last year. Some notable names who did not return are Mario Chalmers, Brandon Rush, and Tyshawn Taylor; however, they can still be added to the roster in the meantime.

In TBT, several former Jayhawks planned on playing in the tournament but backed out at the last minute. That will likely be the case with players on the current roster. However, a player of Mason's caliber would take the squad to a whole different level.
