There were questions about whether Kansas basketball guard Kevin McCullar would return from his knee injury this season. The All-American candidate suffered a bone bruise one month ago and has missed several games while recovering.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his status, head coach Bill Self sounded much more optimistic when talking about McCullar's knee on Thursday during his press conference.

"I think he's doing better," Self said. "I don't know when he'll play next, but I think he's doing better. I think he's gaining on it. Hopefully we can get him back out there."

Self has not ruled out a return tomorrow for when Kansas takes on Baylor in Waco, either.

"I would say there is [a chance he plays] if he could practice full speed today and tomorrow, you know, practice full speed today and tomorrow. If he doesn't practice full speed today and tomorrow I'd say no," Self said.

Through 23 games, McCullar is averaging 19.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in an offensive breakout campaign. The Jayhawks are coming off a bad home loss to BYU and could use him down the stretch.
