Bill Self is always looking for ways to improve the Kansas basketball coaching staff, and the Hall of Famer made an impressive hire this past weekend. The university announced that former walk-on player Chase Buford, who played in Lawrence from 2007-2010, will join the Jayhawks as an analyst.

While his exact role with the rest of the staff is unknown, this is a home run hire for Self and Co. He is an extremely qualified candidate who has tons of coaching experience. He was a 2022 NBL champion while coaching the Sydney Kings in addition to serving as an assistant for Erie BayHawks and Delaware Blue Coats in the NBA G League and winning the coaching job with the Wisconsin Herd.

After the departure of former player Brady Morningstar, Self decided to hire another man who was part of the 2008 National Championship team. Don't look now, but Buford is someone the athletic program could consider down the stretch as the next head coach in waiting if he continues to build up his credentials.
