Kansas basketball included in list for 5-star guard; potential 2024 reclass candidate
One of the best players in the Class of 2025 is still considering the Kansas basketball program as a potential destination. 5-star recruit Joson Sanon included the Jayhawks in his top six along with Kentucky, UConn, Arizona, Overtime Elite, and Boston College.
The No. 11 player in the 247 Sports Composite rankings, Sanon is a 6-foot-5 forward who attends Vermont Academy. He is listed as a 2025 graduate, but recruiting analysts have mentioned he could reclass up one year if the right opportunity presents itself.
A dynamic talent who can space the floor and shoot the ball well from beyond the arc, Sanon would be a terrific addition to KU's roster. Here is the scouting report that Jamie Shaw of On3.com wrote for him.
“Joson Sanon has a basketball player’s frame, with long arms and wide-set shoulders. His pace is excellent, Sanon is never rushed with the ball. At 6-5, he has a pure jump shot with range beyond the arc. He is comfortable shooting off the bounce or the catch, keeping his mechanics consistent throughout. Sanon is a good athlete with explosion and burst. He has the upside to be a good defender, both on and off the ball. Sanon has a solid handle, comfortable getting to the midrange off one and two dribbles. Sanon is tracking among the top in his class.”
Sanon visited Allen Fieldhouse on Feb. 3 when Kansas defeated Houston behind a thrilling atmosphere. He also saw the Jayhawks play in Bloomington when he traveled to Assembly Hall to visit Indiana, who he has now cut out of his recruitment. Kentucky continues to pursue Sanon heavily, and they could be the school to beat for KU.
If he does not reclass, the Massachusetts native will not rush to make a college decision, but Sanon would join McDonald's All-American Flory Bidunga, Labaron Philon, and Rakease Passmore if he joins the 2024 Kansas basketball recruiting class.
