While the Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas State Wildcats have no love lost between each other, they share one thing in common. There was a time when both school's football programs sat in the cellar of the NCAA. Bill Snyder built the Wildcats from the ground up, and Lance Leipold is looking to do the same in Lawrence.

Plenty of people have taken note of what Leipold is doing, especially in the national media. During an episode of "Late Kick Live" last week, host Josh Pate talked about the two top college football teams in Kansas. He praised both schools and called Kansas the most underrated state in terms of CFB talent.

CFB analyst praises both Kansas State and Kansas football programs

"Kansas is the most underrated state in college football … Both (Kansas and Kansas State) have coaches that we power rate inside the Top 15 in America."

CBS Sports' Josh Pate

What Leipold has done during his short tenure at KU is nothing but remarkable. He took over a winless team and transformed it into a bowl-winning 9-4 team just three years later. Meanwhile, K-State coach Chris Klieman has gone 39-24 across five seasons and took the Wildcats to a NY6 bowl game.

Pate mentioned several aspects that have put the Jayhawks back on the radar, such as the terrific play of standouts like Devin Neal, Jalon Daniels, and Cobee Bryant. He also spoke about the great things that Athletic Director Travis Goff has done, whether it be hiring Leipold or the $400 million in stadium and facility renovations that the school is investing in the football program.

After years of being the laughing stock of Power 5 Football, Kansas has garnered respect and become one of the top teams in the Big 12 Conference. Many outlets project the Jayhawks to make the conference championship game. Pate believes that the university is taking football as seriously as any school in the country does.

Kansas and K-State fans might hate each other, but they can't deny that there will be some great battles down the road. Hopefully, KU can finally break the long streak of losses to the Wildcats this season.
