10% Lance Leipold and a lack of discipline

No one wanted to see Leipold show up in these blame pies this season, especially not this early on in the season, but it is time to start holding him accountable. The Jayhawks have not shown the same level of discipline thus far this season that they showed for much of last year under Coach Leipold. Instead, they look more like the mega-penalized team from the Guaranteed Rate Bowl last year, when they helped set a new record for most penalties in a game.

Jalon Daniels copying his same brutal mistake from last week is a reflection of that lack of discipline and protecting the football. Additionally, on 3rd and 2 in the closing minutes of the game as the Jayhawks were trying to come back to tie or win the game, Offensive Lineman, Logan Brown, chop blocked a UNLV player for a 15-yard penalty, effectively ending the game.

This penalty is made to look even worse as it came out of a timeout and the run play was designed to run away from Brown, meaning his chop block was off-ball and completely unnecessary. Leipold needs to tighten up these sloppy plays so these silly mistakes do not continue to haunt the Jayhawks.
