3 things the Kansas Jayhawks must address offensively before UNLV game
By Joel Wagler
For the most part, the Kansas football team looked as if they where by far the superior team when they played Illinois, yet they ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard. The Jayhawks' lack of execution and key errors were more the reasons for the loss than the scrappy opponent.
Considering the experience and talent on the offensive side of the ball, it didn't seem as if KU was talking full advantage of that advantage with the play-calling.
Three areas of improvement needed by the Kansas football offense versus UNLV
No. 1 - Get Jalon Daniels on track
Call it rust, or maybe he is just tentative, but Daniels did not look good against Illinois. He arm looked as if it might have lost some strength as he was short on several balls, including two of his three interceptions.
His decision making seemed off too. The interception he threw at the very end of the half that gave up the lead, was a ball that should never have been thrown. He assumed the blocker would take care of the defender, but that didn't happen. There is a lot of blame on that play, from the missed block, to the fact that isn't a play to be called there, to the actual throwing of the ball when the play blew up.
Daniels also made some bad decisions on some RPO plays, though the did do a good job with some straight option plays, in which he made some good pitches to the half back for some good gains.
Daniels needs to play better, and get to where he was the last two seasons before his injuries. KU won't be good if he doesn't.
