Future Kansas men’s basketball guard Darryn Peterson received a big honor this week as he was named one of 24 players selected to this year’s McDonald’s All-American game.

Peterson – who officially signed with KU in November – is a consensus top three recruit in the 2025 class, according to every major recruiting service across the country. The 6-foot-5 five-star guard has a real chance to be the No. 1 recruit in the country when final rankings come out later this year and is projected to be one of the top picks in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Peterson plays high school ball at Prolific Prep in California where he is currently averaging 23.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 2.9 steals per game.

With this honor, Peterson becomes the 52nd Kansas signee to have been named a McDonald’s All-American – joining current Jayhawks Flory Bidunga and Elmarko Jackson.

Kansas women’s basketball signee Jaliya Davis was also named a McDonald’s All-American this year.

Davis is the third signee in KU women’s basketball history to receive the honor, and she is the first since 2003 (Lauren Ervin).

The 6-foot-2 forward who plays at nearby Blue Valley North High School is the No. 1 prospect in Kansas. She is rated as a five-star recruit and the No. 17 recruit in the country, according to ESPNW.

Davis is part of KU’s highest rated recruiting class in school history, which includes 5-star guard Keeley Parks, four-star forward Tatyonna Brown, and four-star guard Libby Fandel. The class is ranked No. 6 in the country by ESPNW.

Peterson and Davis will put their talents on display when the McDonald’s All-American games kick off on April 1 at the Barclays Center in New York. The games will be streamed on ESPN.
