NFL legend's words come back to bite him after Kansas Jayhawks upset Colorado
Colorado football has been one of the most talked about teams in the sport for the past couple of seasons, and for good reason. Deion “Prime” Sanders has led the Buffs back to relevancy and entered this week’s matchup against the Kansas Jayhawks with a chance to solidify their spot in the Big 12 title game. However, the Jayhawks pulled off their third consecutive ranked upset, marking an NCAA record.
Heading into the week, Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Sapp — the senior quality control analyst in Boulder — seemed to downplay KU’s talent in Thee Pregame Show podcast. Rather than giving the Jayhawks their flowers, he taunted quarterback Jalon Daniels and made some bold predictions. His comments don’t look too great following CU’s defeat:
Warren Sapp's words come back to haunt him after KU win
Kansas enjoyed a historic day on offense, totaling 520 total yards and dominating the time of possession en route to a 37-21 victory. Despite Sapp stating that Colorado would hold the Jayhawks to under 100 yards rushing, Jeff Grimes and his offense amassed 331 yards on the ground. Go figure.
Sapp began the clip calling Daniels a “jitterbug,” suggesting Kansas should hand the ball off to Devin Neal more often. While Daniels has not played at the highest level for parts of the season, it was abnormal for a legend of the game to talk down on a promising young player. “JD6” acknowledged his comments and subtly fired back during his postgame presser.
Colorado is a very good football team, but one has to think they came into the week too cocky. They were undisciplined throughout the contest and looked disengaged early on, letting Kansas get out to an early 17-0 lead.
Although it hasn’t been the season many Jayhawk fans imagined, this late-season comeback has revitalized the football program in Lawrence. Lance Leipold and Co. have an opportunity to clinch bowl eligibility next week in a road tilt at Baylor.
