Kansas football has been on a bit of a run lately when it comes to recruiting. The Jayhawks aren't going to have recruiting classes like those of Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, and other big programs; the success just hasn't been there for Kansas, until recently. Kansas has finally climbed out of the college football basement in recent years, and head coach Lance Leipold is working to keep them out.

As of now, Kansas has eight commitments in the Class of 2027, with a recent tight end commitment, and 247Sports has ranked the Jayhawks as the No. 46 class in the country. Leipold has certainly come in and changed things for Kansas for the better, and recruits are seeing that.

Leipold just landed his tight end of the future with a commitment from three-star tight end Luke Gazzaniga. The California native chose the Jayhawks over Utah and SMU, programs he was high on, but felt like Kansas was the best fit for what he hopes to accomplish in his college career.

Gazzaniga joins another tight end in the Kansas 2027 recruiting class, Mason Oglesby, who just committed to the Jayhawks just six days ago. Clearly, the competition there didn't deter Gazzaniga in choosing the Jayhawks.

The newest tight end commit comes to Kansas as the No. 57 tight end in the Class of 2027 and the No. 94 player in the state of California, according to 247Sports.

3-star tight end Luke Gazzaniga plans to be a Kansas all-time great

When making his commitment to Kansas, three-star tight end Luke Gazzaniga made one thing clear to Jayhawks fans: he plans to do big things in Lawrence. When being recruited by tight end coach Matt Lubick and associate head coach Andy Kotelnicki, Gazzaniga saw how the tight ends would be used going forward at Kansas, and knew his impact would be great.

"They value their tight ends a lot with Coach Kotelnicki and his past and how he uses his tight ends," Gazzaniga said. "There will never be a doubt that tight ends will be used. And I know what I can do, and I know I can be one of the greats. I strongly believe Coach Lubick, Coach K, and Coach Leipold will help me get there. I believe together we will do some real damage to the Big 12, and we will be a Big 12 Champion."

Kansas fans will love to hear that, as the Jayhawks are used to bringing home Big 12 titles on the hardwood, but on the football field, it feels like a foreign concept. Granted, Gazzaniga is going to have to come to Lawrence and back up his talk, but it has to fire fans up in big ways.

Gazzaniga is ready to come and be one of the greats in a Kansas uniform, and with what Leipold is building in Lawrence, he has a great opportunity. The biggest question for Kansas is who will be the quarterback throwing the ball, which will hopefully be figured out sooner rather than later.
