The Kansas basketball team climbed into contention in the Big 12 with its sixth consecutive conference win Monday against Texas Tech. The Jayhawks outscored the Red Raiders 14-2 down the stretch, including two three-pointers in the final minute by Darryn Peterson, to secure KU's third straight road win.
Peterson played a career-high 35 minutes in the victory and was in the game at the finish, making a massive impact on the outcome. That is the best news possible for Kansas.
The Utes have struggled so far in conference play, winning just one game. Still, the Jayhawks need to be careful not to overlook Utah on Saturday with number-one Arizona looming on Monday. This is still the Big 12, and any team can beat any other at any time.
It would be nice if the Jayhawks can be efficient and effective against Utah early and often. It would be a luxury if head coach Bill Self could go deeper into his bench to rest his starters just a little bit more.
