The Kansas basketball team finished its challenging non-conference schedule with a solid 10-3 record and an AP poll ranking of 17th. Now, the real test begins.
The Jayhawks will open their Big 12 schedule on the road against Central Florida. UCF is 11-1, with a 10-game winning streak in place, their only loss coming against Vanderbilt.
As usual, the biggest question surrounding KU is whether Darryn Peterson will play or not. At this point, expectations are low, so don’t count on him until you see him on the floor.

Projected Kansas starting lineup vs. UCF
As always, KU is waiting to see if Darryn Peterson’s family gives the green light for him to play. Don’t hold your breath.
- Melvin Council Jr. - 12.9 points per game
- Tre White - 14.5
- Bryson Tiller - 9.0
- Flory Bidunga - 14.7
- Darryn Peterson - 19.3
- Jamari McDowell - 4.3 (if Peterson doesn't play)
The Peterson waiting game has gotten ridiculous, but there isn't much head coach Bill Self can do about it. At this point, the team has played well without him, so the Jayhawks will still be a good team if Peterson never returns. Council, White, and Bidunga are all good enough for KU to succeed.
