For the seventh time in the last two seasons, the Kansas football team lost a one-score game. In the previous three seasons, KU has let fourth-quarter leads evaporate into losses. The latest effort resulted in a last-minute defeat at the hands of the Arizona Wildcats, evening out the KU record at 5-5.

The Jayhawks have only two more games remaining in which to notch the one win they need to become bowl eligible. The first game, at Iowa State, is the most winnable. The Cyclones’ season has been as disappointing as KU’s. If Kansas doesn’t win at Iowa State, then its last chance for its sixth win will come against a much better Utah team in the last regular-season game of the year.

If Kansas can’t win one of these final two games, this Arizona loss will be a significant reason why the Jayhawks will miss a bowl for the second straight season.
