The Kansas basketball team saw its hopes of another Big 12 title slip away during an uninspired, unenergetic loss to the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday. The Jayhawks hit just four of their 18 three-point attempts. It was a terrible home loss to a middle-of-the-pack conference team. This one was KU couldn't afford to lose.
Kansas also couldn't get any spurts going. They didn't score more than four points in a row for the entire game, and they experienced a long scoreless streak late in the game when they got stuck on 60 points. At the same time, KU couldn't seem to get any stops defensively when they needed to.
Flory Bidunga led KU in scoring with 18, and Darryn Peterson added 17 while logging 32 minutes.
Kansas is in a tie for fourth place in the conference with Texas Tech, two games back of Arizona, who has just two losses. Next up is Houston, but even a win against the Cougars won't help the Jayhawks' chances at winning the Big 12 very much.
KU needs to win out to get a first-round bye in the approaching Big 12 tournament.
