With each passing day, the Kansas Jayhawks get closer to finally seeing a project come to fruition that has been in the works for decades.
The home of Kansas football – David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium – is currently being reconstructed in Lawrence. The stadium, which will be completed in phases as part of the new Gateway District, is set to open in time for the 2025-26 football season in August.
On Wednesday, KU fans got the latest glimpse at what they can expect from the new stadium.
Kansas Athletics shared designs of what seating will look like inside the stadium, with the north bowl featuring the old “K flag” design and “Rock Chalk” displayed on the seating on the west side of the stadium.
According to the news release, the north bowl will also now feature seatbacks – an upgrade from the bleacher seating that used to be present in that area. In addition, fans will see a “50% increase in area per seat and leg room in all renovated sections of the stadium.”
There will be approximately 2,300 club seats in three different spaces throughout the stadium along with “unique social zones.” Suites will be 80 feet closer to the field and all seats on the west and north sides will be closer to the field than in the old stadium.
Field designs are still being finalized, but the renderings show endzones with the block lettering that was featured on KU’s uniforms this past season. It’s likely that those will be part of the final design, however, the bigger unknown is which of the Jayhawks logo will go at midfield.
It could be KU’s current version of the Jayhawk, it could be the popular 1941 version, known as the “Warhawk.” There are several directions KU could go, but fans will have to wait a little longer to know for sure.
Season ticket pricing
In addition to new stadium renderings, Kansas also announced new season ticket pricing models for this upcoming season.
Starting this year, KU is implementing a new “per-seat donation model” which allows fans to view the total price of their purchase, including the cost of the ticket, the annual donation amount required to purchase the ticket, and any applicable taxes or fees. Parking costs and information will be released at a later date prior to the “select-a-seat” process.
In Thursday’s news release, Kansas Athletics said they have sold nearly 90% of premium season tickets and expect to sell out by the end of February. There is also only limited seating available currently in the new 1921 North Field Club.
