One of the best college basketball prospects in the 2028 recruiting class reclassified into the 2027 class. Adan Diggs was a top target for the Kansas basketball team and head coach Bill Self before the move, and recruiting is likely to ramp up moving forward.
Rivals ranks Diggs second after his reclassification into the 2027 class. Only CJ Rosser is ahead of him. 247 Sports lists him fourth. Diggs is 17 years old and is a six-foot-five shooting guard.
Competition will be tough to gain his services. In addition to Kansas, who has already made him an offer (according to 247Sports), Arizona, Houston, Kentucky, North Carolina, Texas, BYU, Alabama, and several other schools have already offered the young man a place.
Diggs was named the MaxPreps Sophomore Player of the Year this past year, which is yet further proof of how talented he is and why he is so sought aftere already.
How Adan Diggs would help the Kansas basketball roster in 2027
If Diggs eventually signs with Kansas, the Jayhawks would already have two of the top players in that class locked in. Small forward Javon Bardwell committed last fall, and if he doesn't reclassify himself into the 2026 class, it would give the Jayhawks a lot of firepower.
KU has a fairly young roster for the 2026-27 season, with only Christian Reeves, Keanu Dawes, and Dennis Parker Jr. as the only seniors. No one else is a sophomore or an incoming freshman. At least one of the freshmen, Tyran Stokes, is likely to head to the NBA after one year and Kansas.
Of course, there will be some attrition due to inevitable transfers, but if Bardwell and Diggs both came in together, it would go a long way toward making up for the loss of the veteran players. The Jayhawks will have a deeper, more athletic roster this year, and hopefully the minutes will be more spread out. This would allow for more in-game development and maybe keep players in the program longer.
Diggs will get a chance to run with some Jayhawks this summer as he made the cut of finalists for the 2026 USA Men's U18 National Team. Incoming freshmen for KU, Davion Adkins and Tylen Kinney, also made it to the final 19. There is no guarantee all three will make the team, but any time Kinney and Adkins can spend around Diggs is time they can get closer with him and maybe help recruit him to Kansas.
If Bill Self can find a way to bring Diggs to Lawrence, that will be the third straight recruiting season in which a top recruit committed to Kansas. Darryn Peterson was one of the top two recruits last season (depending on which ranking list you look at), Stokes is the top player in the 2026 class, and Diggs is a top-five player in the 2027 class.
Gaining a Diggs commitment would be further proof Self still has his recruiting mojo. It will build upon the solid foundation of youthful talent he already has on the roster. It will be interesting to see if Diggs decides early in the process like Peterson did, or if he waits until the spring like Stokes did.
It would be great to add another talent like Diggs, in addition to Bardwell, to start the new recruiting season.
