The Kansas football program has undergone significant personnel changes over the past couple of days. While no one can officially enter the portal yet, there have been 19 players who plan to enter on January 2nd.

The latest (and debatably hardest-hitting) was linebacker Trey Lathan. Lathan himself is a former transfer from the West Virginia Mountaineers who was an .8600-rated transfer when he departed Morgantown.

In Lathan’s lone season with the Jayhawks, he totaled a team-leading 86 tackles, with 1.5 sacks, and 51 solo tackles. While Kansas’ defense suffered with the 94th worst total defense, allowing 409.5 yards, Lathan usually looked the most stable linebacker out of the pack.

The Jayhawks have lost 11 defensive players, including JaCorey Stewart (LB), Damani Maxson (S), Lyrik Rawls (S), Jon Jon Kamara (LB), Jameel Croft Jr. (CB), Logan Brantley (LB), Laquan Robinson (S), Caleb Redd (Edge), Aundre Gibson (CB), Jacoby Davis (CB), and now Lathan.

Lathan’s two highest-tackling games came in a 42-31 loss against Missouri, where Lathan notched 13 tackles. Later in the season, as the Jayhawks were pushing for a bowl game, Lathan totaled 13 tackles against Iowa State in a 38-14 loss, in Kansas’ penultimate game.

Ultimately, the Jayhawks finished this season with a 5-7 record, their second 5-7 season in two years. After a good 4-2 start, the Jayhawks finished the season with a 1-5 finish, with their lone win against the Oklahoma State Cowboys in a 38-21 win.
