In sunny Lubbock, Texas, the vibes were high for the Jayhawks. Kansas was a week off from a big, momentum-gaining 27-20 win over UCF to move to 4-2.
Sure, No.9 Texas Tech was going to be a challenge: the Red Raiders are undefeated and possess as explosive an offense as the nation will see in a long time. Heading into the night, the Red Raiders led the nation with 568 yards per game.
Yet this is a Kansas team that has been able to thrive on being an underdog under head coach Lance Leipold.

Things, however, have not gotten off to a great start for Leipold’s squad. After seven relatively productive plays, Kansas was forced off the field, and Texas Tech was able to quickly jump out to a lead.
A 71-yard rushing touchdown on the first play allowed Texas Tech to jump out to a 7-0 lead with 10:38 to play.

Backup quarterback Cole Ballard did not help things as his 11-yard rush was quickly stripped away, and just like that, Texas Tech had the ball, and electric QB Behren Morton converted his first passing touchdown of the season. Combine that with a fancy two-point play, and Kansas goes down 15-0.
A three-and-out ensued, and head coach Joey McGuire’s team added another three points. When the first quarter ended, Kansas was outgained 176-36 in first-quarter yardage, all while holding 9:33 worth of possession.
