Melvin Council Jr. was a bit of a surprise for Kansas fans this year. Coming in as a transfer from St Bonaventure, Council started his career at Monroe Junior College before spending a year at Wagner as well.

After two years at the Division I level, Council really made the jump in transferring to Kansas for what is supposed to be his final year of eligibility. With the changing world of eligibility and the debate of years in junior college should count, Council could try to get another year in a college uniform.

After the loss to St. John's, Council spoke about what he was going to remember most about Kansas, the biggest one being the fans in the stands at Allen Fieldhouse. Council also spoke on how he would love to try to get another year in Lawrence.

"If I can get another year, I got to talk to my parents," Council said. "Most definitely, I would love to come back, finish it off, make it to the Sweet 16."

Melvin Council Jr. has big plans for Kansas if he receives another year of eligibility

The Kansas Jayhawks have not made it past the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament since they won the National Championship in 2022. That is four years of losing either in the first or second round, and no Sweet 16 appearances.

Council Jr. said that if he can get another year with the Jayhawks, he wants to go out on a high note, at least with a Sweet 16 appearance. Many Kansas fans would love to see that, especially with a guy like Council on the floor, who really bought into everything Kansas had to offer him.

With Kansas losing some members of this season's squad, bringing Council back could be a huge boost to the offense.
