The NCAA Transfer Portal only opened earlier his week, and it has seen a mass exodus across several universities. Notwithstanding, the Kansas Jayhawks, who have just Corbin Allen and Kohl Rosario as the only two players who haven’t at least teased an exit through the portal.
Yet until either some Jayhawks return to the team or others get extra eligibility, Bill Self and his staff must use the portal to their advantage, and there may be no better place to start than VCU transfer guard Terrence Hill Jr.Â

Hill will visit Kansas on Monday and Tennessee on Wednesday https://t.co/rtdPRDosgC pic.twitter.com/yiJnJrbAfc
Hill started just two games for the Rams last season, but off the bench, he became one of the best sixth men in the country, averaging 15 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game, as VCU finished the season with a strong 28-8 record, making it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.Â
What does Hill bring to the Jayhawks?
Hill truly broke onto the national scene when Phil Martelli Jr.’s side took down the UNC Tar Heels as Hill’s 34 points led the way in the 82-78 overtime victory.Â
Over the course of his sophomore season, Hill finished with a 2.55 assist-to-turnover ratio, which shows a decent but not fully developed playmaking facet.Â
Hill finished the season shooting 46.6% from the field and 37% from beyond the arc, showcasing a strong offensive skillset.Â
A worry around Hill revolves around his overall production. According to John Hollinger’s game score metric, Hill finished with an average of an 11.3 rating. According to Hollinger, 10 is average and 40 is perfect. Hollinger’s game score appears to be heavily skewed by scoring, but it would put some fears to bed if that score were a bit higher.
Another thing worth considering is his lack of experience. This doesn’t necessarily mean that no player can move to a power conference successfully; the name Melvin Council Jr. refutes that theory, but as previously mentioned, Hill has started in just two games this season and his entire career, as a matter of fact. His lack of starts is at least worth consideration.
With Hill set to visit early next week, it will be worth keeping tabs on.
