In just about 24 hours, the No. 8 Kansas Jayhawks will be taking on the Oklahoma State Cowboys. While the Stillwater side is not in contention for the top of the Big 12 like Kansas is, the Cowboys are still fighting for an NCAA Tournament bid as they rank 63rd in the KenPom, and currently hold a 16-9 record, even though their Big 12 record is planted towards the bottom at just 4-8.
When previewing Oklahoma State ahead of Wednesday night’s clash, Kansas head coach Bill Self previewed senior guard Anthony Roy.
“I think he's one of the league's top players, and he's certainly one of the league's top shooters and scorers.”
Roy averages 17.6 points per game, with a 44.3% field goal rate, to go along with 3.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists. Roy can also take over from deep, averaging a 42.3% mark from beyond the arc, a mark that sits 28th in the nation.
Kansas has seen its share of elite three-point shooters this season
“You look at [Milan] Momcilovic, and we've seen him…Roy has that same type range and that same type touch.”
The Iowa State forward torched Kansas in their most recent 74-56 loss against the Cyclones. Momcilovic notched four gut-wrenching threes against the Jayhawks last weekend, and exposed that despite how good of a defense you may play, opposing players can still take the game away just as the junior did to cease Kansas’ eight-game winning run.
Roy is a transfer from Green Bay, where he played one season under Doug Gottelieb, where he notched an astounding 25.7 points per game before making the move to the Big 12. “Doug [Gottlieb] had told me that he was really a talented kid.”
Roy was touted as a four-star transfer and was ranked as the nation’s 181st overall transfer in the class of 2025.
Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. CT with streaming available on Peacock.
