Senior guard Tre White is quickly emerging as the guy to rely on for Kansas’ scoring needs. White has had a career that has seen him travel across the country; yet, he looks most at home at Allen Fieldhouse.
On 30 minutes a game, White is averaging a smooth 14.5 points per game, with an additional seven rebounds, and 2.3 assists with a 51.9% field goal rate, which includes 43.2% from beyond the arc.
In all but two games this season, White has notched double-digit points, and his consistent rates have seen him ring off 12+ points in each of his last four games. White’s season-high currently sits at 22 points in Kansas’ 78-66 loss to the No. 5 Duke Blue Devils. While White’s smooth shot will always draw the most eyes, his effort on the glass has been important as well. For a Kansas team that allows 35 rebounds a game (165th-worst in the nation), White’s seven rebounds sit second on the team behind only Flory Bidunga (9.2), who realistically will never be beaten out.
White has totaled 6+ rebounds in all but two games this season, both of which were in the Jayhawks’ first two games of the season: a 94-51 win against Green Bay, and an 87-74 loss to the No. 25 UNC Tar Heels. Since then, White has seen efforts of 6,8,9,9,10,6,7,13,6,6,8.
White has established himself as Kansas’ second-best scorer (assuming Peterson is healthy), and his 8.1 shots per game will likely be as low as you will see with a grueling conference stretch ahead.
Kansas’ next game is its conference opener against the UCF Golden Knights. Tipoff is set for January 3rd at 1 p.m. CT with streaming available on Peacock.
