The Kansas baseball team picked up a trio of critical wins this weekend against their in-state rivals Kansas State as the Jayhawks hosted the Wildcats in a three-game series at Hoglund Ballpark in Lawrence.
For the first time since 2019, KU swept K-State in this year's Sunflower Showdown – giving the Jayhawks a record of 31-10 (12-6 in Big 12) on the season. The 31 wins matches last year’s total with still about a month left to go in conference play.
The Jayhawks came from behind multiple times throughout the weekend to win by a score of 5-3 in game one, 6-3 in game two, and 6-5 in game three.
KU now ranks second in the Big 12 standings behind West Virginia (13-3) ahead of an opportunistic, four-game road trip next week.
The Jayhawks will travel to Nebraska (19-21 overall) on Tuesday and then to Utah on Friday for a three-game series. The Utes currently sit in last place in the Big 12 with a 16-19 overall record and 5-13 record in conference.
KU has had its struggles on the road this year, posting a 4-5 away record compared to an 8-1 record at home. But if the Jayhawks can take advantage of this favorable portion of their schedule, they could really solidify their chances at winning their first-ever Big 12 championship and making the College World Series for the first time since 1993.
