The Kansas basketball program opened the early signing period by officially bringing 5-star recruit Darryn Peterson on board and earning the commitment of international forward Samis Calderon. Bill Self has quickly assembled one of the Jayhawks' better high school classes in recent memory.

While KU has flourished in the transfer portal in recent years, plenty of talent will be lost to graduation following the 2024-25 campaign. Therefore, the coaching staff continues to pursue high-profile prospects, one of them being Overtime Elite star Bryson Tiller. After initially delaying his commitment date, Tiller is now expected to make his college decision this Saturday.

Bryson Tiller could commit to Kansas basketball over the weekend

Kansas is in the mix to land the nation's 20th-best prospect in the Class of 2025 along with Georgia Tech, Indiana, and Auburn. Tiller was long considered a candidate to go the G League Ignite route. However, he started getting more involved with colleges and could even be a multi-year player in the NCAA.

The Jayhawks were once favorites to land Tiller, but the addition of Calderon changes the outlook of how Self and Co. approach the recruiting trail. While they have very different play styles, it certainly feels like odd timing for Tiller to announce his decision date one day after KU landed a new recruit. He might have been down to two schools — Kansas and one of his other three options — and made his choice following the Calderon acquisition.

"It was good. They have a great coaching staff and obviously a great culture," Tiller once said about Kansas to 247 Sports. "We went again on an unofficial just to see the skill development and all of that stuff, the little details. We just wanted to gather more information. When we went back we wanted to learn a lot more about development, off-season development and how I would be able to fit into their system and evolve as a player while I'm there, if I go there."

There is no telling which cap Tiller might put on this weekend. Jayhawk fans can watch his decision at 10:30 a.m. CT on the 247 Sports YouTube channel.
