The “from the Phog” NBA rookies and reserves
Johnny Furphy (Indiana Pacers) - Furphy is the Jayhawk in the NBA who most recently suited up for the Crimson and Blue, as he played in Kansas’ final March Madness game last year. While he unexpectedly fell into the 2nd round of the NBA draft, many GMs think that Furphy was a huge draft steal this year and will be a depth option for the Indiana Pacers as a rookie.
Kevin McCullar Jr. (New York Knicks) - Meanwhile, fellow NBA rookie Kevin McCullar Jr., enjoyed two years in Kansas following three years at Texas Tech, before he was also drafted in the second round of this most recent draft. He will almost certainly not get NBA minutes this season for the Knicks, but is on a two-way contract with them and will play for their G-league team.
Svi Mykhailiuk (Utah Jazz) - Svi had a hell of a fun time last season with the Boston Celtics, as he was lucky enough to not just win a NBA championship, but he was actually on the floor while the confetti dropped. Mykhailiuk played with Kansas from 2014-2018 and will now join the Utah Jazz after signing a four-year, $15 million contract this offseason to provide team-friendly depth.
Devonte’ Graham (Portland Trail Blazers) - Yes, Devonte’ is still around! Like Mykhailiuk, Graham also spent four years in Lawrence from 2014-2018 before entering the NBA. He has jumped around from the Hornets, to the Pelicans, to the Spurs, but will now bring a veteran presence and depth to the Blazers, potentially helping Scoot Henderson develop his game.
Markieff Morris (Dallas Mavericks) - Morris played for Kansas from 2008-2011 and is the oldest Jayhawk in the NBA. While his brother, Marcus, was released from the Knicks following the Karl-Anthony Towns trade and is not currently on an NBA roster, Markieff will stick around for at least one more year. He will join Quentin Grimes in Dallas as an emergency PF option.
