Bill Self has assembled one of the most impressive high school recruiting classes in Kansas basketball history, with the crown jewel being Darryn Peterson. He is a freakishly talented guard with undeniable NBA potential.
Peterson’s commitment has raised expectations for the future, as he is widely regarded as the next superstar to wear a Kansas uniform. On New Year’s Eve, Peterson attended KU’s Big 12 conference opener against West Virginia, marking his first visit to Allen Fieldhouse as a signee.

Although the Jayhawks suffered a heartbreaking defeat, the sight of the fanbase cheering for Peterson before he even played a minute in Lawrence was exciting to see. The fanbase has bought into the belief that Peterson is on track to become one of the school's best players in recent years.
Head coach Bill Self has high praise for his prized recruit. In a press conference on Monday, Self admired Peterson. "When you talk about a combination of a player and a prospect, I think that's without question," Self said. "He’s a special talent. To me, Darryn’s the best player we've recruited since we've been here."
While Kansas could have used Peterson’s scoring ability during its frustrating loss, the future looks bright with him. Peterson is poised to play a major role in Kansas basketball’s success next year. Hopefully, the Jayhawks’ next showing with him in the building is much better.
