The Kansas baseball team (15-2) is off to one of its best starts in recent years, and that hot start only grew this week following an impressive road win over Minnesota.

The Jayhawks absolutely throttled the Gophers by a score of 29-1 on Wednesday inside U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The 29 runs scored were the most ever in program history against a Division I opponent and the most ever scored by KU on the road.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Jayhawks went on a tear, scoring five runs in the top of the second to lead the Gophers 5-1 heading into the third inning – that’s when history was made.

KU rattled off back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back (five consecutive) home runs in the top of the third as Chase Diggins, Max Soliz Jr., Brady Counsell, Brady Ballinger and Jackson Hauge all went yard. Diggins would later hit a grand slam in the top of the fifth.

The five home runs were the most in a single inning in Kansas baseball history and it tied the NCAA record for most home runs in a single inning. It was also just the fourth time in NCAA history that a team has hit five consecutive home runs in a game – the last one coming from South Carolina in 2006.

Following their big day, the Jayhawks were all over social media. Even the Major League Baseball X account shared a video of KU’s historic third inning.

This KU baseball team has been fun to watch, and they’ll look to continue their winning ways as they host a three-game home series against the Baylor Bears this weekend in their first Big 12 matchup of the 2025 season.
