After several underwhelming seasons in Lawrence, Kansas basketball is still trying to reclaim its dominance in an era defined by the transfer portal. Bill Self's Jayhawks have suffered three straight early March exits, despite entering back-to-back seasons as the nation’s top-ranked team.
With over 1,000 players having already entered the portal, the coaching staff is keeping close tabs on several potential additions. One of those players in Treysen Eaglestaff, a former North Dakota star who is one of the most prolific scorers on the open market.
Kansas Jayhawks interested in Treysen Eaglestaff
A former North Dakota standout, Eaglestaff is a dynamic 6-foot-6 guard who has proven he can score at an elite level. He has been on scouts' radars for some time thanks to his ability to take over games, highlighted by a 40-point outburst in a near-upset against Alabama and a 51-point explosion in a conference tournament win over South Dakota State.
With several top programs, including Kentucky and St. John’s, also pursuing him, he has become one of the most sought-after players in the transfer portal. ESPN ranks him as the No. 23 player in the portal as of March 24.
As a junior, the Bismarck native averaged 18.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists. Eaglestaff made 2.5 three-pointers per game at a 35.9% clip last year.
While Eaglestaff is a volume scorer and would have to adjust to a smaller offensive role at Kansas, his shot creation and scoring ability would provide valuable depth in the backcourt alongside incoming freshman Darryn Peterson. Jayhawk fans should keep a close eye on this one.
