The Kansas Jayhawks are entering the most pivotal point of their season. Come Friday night against the 13th-seed Cal Baptist, it is truly win or go home.
While the focus of the KU community should be squarely focused on concocting their own imaginary defenses to stop dynamic guard Dominique Daniels Jr., instead, the Jayhawk fanbase is at war over the comments former Kansas center Hunter Dickinson made on the Run Your Race Podcast over Kansas’ tumultuous 2024/25 season.

-Didn’t feel supported at times due to negative KU fans.
-Felt like it was a job and was no longer fun.
-A few of his teammates were ready for season to end and checked out early.

Scot Pollard responds to Dickinson’s comments
Former Jayhawk center Scot Pollard clapped back at Dickinson Tuesday afternoon with his own statement calling out the former Wolverine.
“It was like a job”. Understand that when you get paid millions to do something that it IS a job. Expectations come when paychecks are involved. That’s how employment works. Very glad my 18 year old understands this concept playing/working for @HawaiiFootball #BRADDAHHOOD https://t.co/vL3eq2iLoL

At the end of the day, two things can be true. Head coach Bill Self recently went on record to say that Dickinson took a pay cut just to play for the Jayhawks, which is a sign of his commitment to getting the team back to a national championship.
However, it is also clear that, whether rightly or wrongly so, Kansas fans never truly got behind Dickinson. It also doesn’t take a lifelong fan to note that the chemistry on either of the two teams that Dickinson played on –especially the latter– was ever truly great, as he even noted.
While Pollard is right to point out the earnings of Dickinson. It also feels clear to see that there was always a disconnect that seemed to never be repaired as Kansas went just 44-24 in the two seasons with Dickinson. While never managing a trip beyond the round of 32, something fans hope to see change starting in just a few hours.
Tipoff against the Lancers is set for 8:45 p.m. CT with streaming available on CBS. As of writing, the Jayhawks hold a 92.6% chance of getting past the Western Athletic Conference champions. Cal Baptist took down the No. 1 seed Utah Valley thanks to a missed dunk in the last seconds of Saturday’s 63-61 thriller
