David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium has long been the home of the Kansas football program. Through the highs of the 2007 squad, which saw the Jayhawks peak as the No. 2 team in the nation, and the lows of the 2010's which saw the team rally with just three wins at best.
In late 2023, Kansas played its last game before the mass renovations took place, thanks to the transformation of the University of Kansas Gateway Project.
Prior to renovations, the Jayhawks totaled a 279-268-1 record in the over century-long record that kept fans filing in since 1921
Last year, the Hawks saw themselves play at both Children's Mercy Park and GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
But by the time Fresno State rolls into town in just over one month, Kansas will be taking on the Bulldogs with a revamped Memorial Stadium.
Earlier this week, reporter Kellis Robinett broke some interesting news about how the stadium will look next year.
Kansas AD Travis Goff says the Jayhawks will have a stadium capacity "a notch above" 40,000 this season in Lawrence. Further renovations will increase that number closer to 50,000 in future years.

"On time, on budget" was the response from Kansas athletic director Travis Goff, as Goff spoke to the media in late April. "Four words that we're really enjoying continuing to say around here, they're working incredibly hard, the Turner team and all the subs are doing outstanding work, double shifts, 600 people on site any given moment, and everything is on track for that August 23rd home opener."
This is going to be a Kansas team that shied away from expectations last year, in a team that saw head coach Lance Leipold compile two winning seasons in a row, including rankings that have seen Kansas jump as high as No. 19 in the AP Poll.
If the Jayhawks can cap off the newly revamped Memorial Stadium with a home opening win, then things will quickly be calmed for Leipold.
This season, Kansas will host Fresno State and Wagner as tune-up games before the gauntlet of Big 12 matchups comes, which include welcoming West Virginia, Cincinnati, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, all before Utah wraps up the home slate.
Last season, when Leipold's team was forced to move around, his squad managed well, totaling a strong 4-2 record with losses coming up against UNLV in a shocking 23-20 loss and later a 38-27 loss to the TCU Horned Frogs.
