Kansas football's Quentin Skinner named Walk-On of the Week after Jayhawks loss
While Kansas football has severely underperformed in 2024, the team returned significant talent from last year's team when the Jayhawks finished 9-4 with a bowl victory. All three of KU's top wideouts came back to Lawrence for their senior year, including former walk-on Quentin Skinner.
The Oklahoma native has gotten better each year, and on Tuesday, Skinner was named the Burlsworth Trophy's Walk-On of the Week after a breakout performance in the recent loss to Arizona State.
Quentin Skinner named Burlsworth Trophy’s Walk-On of the Week
Skinner accounted for half of Jalon Daniels' production, recording 130 receiving yards on six receptions and two touchdowns, including one that could have been the game-winner if not for the defense's collapse. The 130-yard tally was the highest of his collegiate career and marked the first time he surpassed the century mark in a single game.
With his performance against ASU, Skinner now ranks second on the team in receiving yards with 235 on the season and has 14 catches through six games. He has become one of most dynamic playmakers in Kansas football's offense, as he consistently provides a reliable downfield option for Daniels.
Since arriving at Kansas as a walk-on in 2020, he has tallied 1,262 receiving yards. Standing at 6-foot-5 with elite speed, Skinner possesses physical attributes that make him a nightmare for opposing defensive backs. The Jayhawks' season has not gone as planned during his senior year, but he still has six games left to finish off strong.
According to the Bulsworth Trophy website: "The Burlsworth Trophy was first awarded in 2010 and is presented each year to “ College football’s most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on”. The trophy is presented to a young man who embodies the values that Brandon Burlsworth stood for. Brandon was a walk on football player at the University of Arkansas and completed his college career as an All-American and the 63rd overall pick in the NFL draft. He was the first Razorback football player in history to complete his master’s degree before playing his final college game. Tragically, he was killed in an auto accident just days after the draft. The Burlsworth Trophy is presented by the Brandon Burlsworth Foundation at the annual award show each December."
