The Kansas football team entered last season with hefty expectations, with some outlets naming the Jayhawks potential Big 12 champions. But those hopes were quickly dispelled after a disappointing 1-5 start, and Lance Leipold's group failed even to make a bowl game.

While several key contributors departed from the program this offseason, quarterback Jalon Daniels is back for one more season and the offense made promising additions. The hope in Lawrence is that KU can return to its winning ways in 2025, and BetMGM's oddsmakers echo that sentiment. The sportsbook's opening win total for the Jayhawks is listed at 7.5.

Kansas football odds set at 7.5 wins for next season

BetMGM puts -150 odds on KU to finish with over 7.5 wins on the season. Meanwhile, bettors can put +115 odds for the Jayhawks to finish with seven or fewer. NCAA championship odds sit at +12500.

Generally ranked in the top half of Big 12 preseason rankings, Kansas fans are expecting a bounce-back campaign for the Jayhawks. Even after an inspiring late-year comeback, the team squandered multiple chances to pull away late in games, losing all but two meetings by one possession.

Although these are only opening odds, it is a good sign that oddsmakers feel that Leipold and Co. will improve this upcoming season. The quest to a conference title begins Aug. 23 in a Week 0 game against Fresno State, the first contest in the newly renovated David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.
