The Kansas football coaching staff has gotten off to a hot start in the 2026 recruiting class by landing another one of the Sunflower State’s top prospects.
Defensive end Hunter Higgins out of Wichita, Kansas, committed to KU on Wednesday during a ceremony at Maize South High School. The 6-foot-5 Higgins is the No. 2-ranked player in Kansas and a four-star recruit, according to Rivals. He picked KU over a trio of Big Ten schools including Michigan, Nebraska, and Wisconsin.
Higgins is now the highest rated recruit to commit to the Jayhawks in the 2026 class and the second top-10 recruit in Kansas – joining safety James Dunnigan Jr. who is ranked as the No. 4 player in the state.
The 2026 recruiting class now sits at four commitments, the other two being Wichita quarterback Jaylen Mason and talented cornerback Trey Brown from Tustin, California. The class is ranked No. 24 nationally and No. 2 in the Big 12 (just barely) behind Arizona State.
It’s early, but this KU football coaching staff is off to a great start building for the future through the high school recruiting ranks.
