The Kansas football team is about two and a half weeks away from its first game against Long Island, and there are still plenty of questions about the team.
If the quarterback competition has yet to resolve itself, with Cole Ballard the favorite. Isaiah Marshall is looking to overtake Ballard, and Chase Jenkins is vying for snaps as well.
The revamped running back room seems solid, with Dylan Edwards, Yasin Willis, Jalen Dupree, and Kory Amachree offering plenty of talent and depth. Carson Bruhn and Leyton Cure top a veteran tight end corps.
Cam Picket, Keaton Kubecka, and Tate Nagy head up the returning wide receivers with Nahzae Cox and Nik McMillan offering experience as transfers. KU has several young receivers who try to carve out playing time too.
It will be intriguing to see if the offensive line is improved or if the defense can be better than last season's. Will the Jayhawks be athletic enough on defense to stop opponents? That is something that shall be answered quickly.
With all of these questions swirling about the roster, how does Vegas consider Kansas for the upcoming season?
What are the preseason odds of Kansas winning the Big 12 in 2026?
According to BetMGM, the Kansas football team has the 11th-best odds of finishing the Big 12 conference in first place. It is sitting at +3000 as of Monday.
Those are pretty long odds considering Texas Tech is the runaway favorite at +100. The next best odds go to BYU at +550.
What is interesting is that there is a big middle of the pack, as far as the odds go. Five teams range from Arizona and Arizona State at +2000 to Kansas at +3000. This indicates that the Jayhawks aren't the only school with question marks surrounding their roster.
What is the preseason win over/under number for Kansas football?
Again, according to BetMGM, the over/under for regular season wins by the Jayhawks is 5.5. That seems like a pretty fair number.
KU has two games they should absolutely win against Long Island and Middle Tennessee. There are four games where just about everything would have to go right for the Jayhawks to be victorious. Those opponents are Missouri, Utah, Kansas State, and BYU.
That leaves six other games that Kansas could win if they play well while limiting penalties and turnovers.
UCF, Baylor, and West Virginia have worse odds of winning the conference but similar over/under numbers. TCU, Arizona State, and Oklahoma State have better odds of winning the Big 12 and slightly higher over/unders.
Any of those games could be winnable for the Jayhawks. If the team comes together quickly and players develop rapidly, it is not a stretch to see Kansas winning at least four of those. If things go sideways, like they have the last couple of seasons, four or five total wins may be the ceiling.
It is obvious that Vegas views Kansas as one of several middle-of-the-pack schools in the Big 12. Two or three of those teams will excel, and two or three will struggle. If Kansas can be one of the first group, the Jayhawks will return to a bowl, and things will be going in the right direction for the program.
Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
