There is a new leader in the Big 12 baseball standings, and while many believe that Kansas is just a basketball school, the Jayhawks are now a baseball school. The Jayhawks are now the leaders in the Big 12 after a monster weekend against UCF, which resulted in a sweep of the Knights.
Going into the weekend, this series was going to determine who was going to lead the conference, and with UCF ranked No. 12 in the country and having a great season, it was a big opportunity for the Jayhawks. After beating UCF once on Friday and then twice in a doubleheader on Saturday due to expected weather problems, the Jayhawks have finally received some love in the rankings.
Now sitting at the top of the Big 12 with a 26-10 record and a 12-3 record in conference play, Kansas has come in ranked No. 18 in the D1 Baseball rankings and No. 19 in the Baseball America rankings.

Kansas is riding a 10-game win streak all the way to the top of the Big 12
While many thought that UCF was hot heading into the weekend series against the Jayhawks, so was Kansas, as they had a seven-game win streak that has now been stretched to 10. Kansas is also a perfect 9-0 at home this season, proving home-field advantage is real for this team.
Kansas is also a perfect 4-0 this season against ranked opponents, and now they finally have a ranking of their own. The three-game sweep of UCF was exactly what the Jayhawks needed with the season beginning to wind down.
Friday night was a big win for the Jayhawks as Kansas fought off the Knights in extra innings to walk it off 4-3 on a Max Soliz Jr. hit to left field to win. Even after a longer-than-expected game, Kansas was ready for the test of a doubleheader on Saturday, where things would heat up even more for the Jayhawks' offense
Two games in one day, though, was no trouble for the Jayhawks pitching as Dominic Voegele and Mason Cook both were dominant with a combined 13 innings pitched, allowing only eight hits, four walks, four runs, and a stellar 16 strikeouts, both earning wins in their respective contest.
Kansas will return to Hoglund Ballpark for a little in-state competition as the Jayhawks look to keep their undefeated record at home when they face Wichita State on Tuesday, April 14. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. CT.
