The No. 11 Kansas Jayhawks have reached the height of their momentum over the past couple of weeks. After an on-and-off start, which saw Kansas sit with a 1-2 record in conference play and an overall record of 11-5, Bill Self’s squad has rattled off six straight wins, three of which against AP Top 25 opponents in No. 2 Iowa State —84-63—, No. 13 BYU —90-82—, and most recently No. 13 Texas Tech in an 64-61 duel.
The best thing about each of the aforementioned wins was that none of them were the result of one person going ballistic, but rather a team effort, which has been spearheaded by elite defense and the occasional clutch Darryn Peterson shot.
Kansas sees itself pushed into the top 10 of latest CBS Sports power rankings
In CBS Sports’ latest college basketball power rankings, the Jayhawks saw themselves be pushed up to the No. 6 slot.
What has led to Kansas’ turn of form?
Following Kansas’11-point loss to West Virginia to bring them to 1-2 in Big 12 play, transfer guard Tre White had confirmed that the Jayhawks held a players-only meeting, which has since resulted in the streak, meaning it is pretty easy to link the two.
However, it is certainly worth noting that the most amount of points Kansas has given up during this stretch is 82, which was against a dangerous BYU side that was led by Richie Saunders’ 33 points.
Kansas’ worst night from a field goal perspective was when they gave up a 45% rate against the Cougars. Barring that, the Jayhawks gave up 37%, 36%, 36%, 34%, and 32%, all fantastic rates when you consider the conference competition the Jayhawks had to face.
What is next for the Jayhawks?
The ever-strong Big 12 means the Jayhawks will play host to the Utah Utes before hosting the nation’s No. 1 team, the Arizona Wildcats. Against the Utes, the Jayhawks are currently given a 94.9% of winning according to ESPN Analytics.
