Kansas basketball has added a home-and-home series with UConn to its schedule, according to CBS Sports. The Huskies will visit Allen Fieldhouse on December 2, 2025, and the Jayhawks will return the visit next season.
It is always exciting when two top-tier programs play each other, and even more so when they play on each other’s home court. It’s a terrific experience for fans and players alike. While this game has a made-for-television feel to it, who cares?
UConn is one of the top programs of the 21st century, having won six national championships since 1999, including back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024. While they may not have the long history of success to be considered a true college basketball blueblood, they are making an excellent case to be included with schools like Kansas, North Carolina, Duke, and Kentucky.
Kansas ad UConn have combined to win 25 percent of the national championships since 1988. KU won in 1988, 2088, and 2022. The Huskies have titles in 1999, 2004, 2011, 2014, 2023, and 2024.
Both Kansas and UConn should be top 20 teams when they meet
As of now, Gary Parrish of CBS Sports has UConn ranked 5th and Kansas 18th. Of course, this can change as KU still has three scholarships to offer. If they had some interior depth or a good scorer, you could see that ranking improve for the Jayhawks.
When these two teams meet, they will have a few games each, so those rankings will change as the season progresses, with this matchup falling a month into the season. Both schools have an opportunity to contend for yet another national title.
Kansas will headline super frosh Darryn Peterson and sophomore big man Flory Bidunga, while the Huskies will feature Solo Ball and Alex Karaban.
Of course, the spotlight will surely fall on the two head coaches as well. Hall of Famer Bill Self leads Kansas, while the successful Dan Hurley sits atop the UConn program. Kansas has never lost to UConn in four previous matchups.
Both this year’s game at the Phog and next year’s at the Gampel Pavilion should provide ample evidence of how each team is progressing through the earlier stages of the season. Both venues will be rocking and amped up for these marquee matchups.
