We are less than a week away from the 2025–26 college basketball season, and things are starting to heat up. It's the home stretch for our player profile series, and each player remaining is expected to see time in the frontcourt for the Jayhawks this year. The next member we must talk about is senior transfer Anthony "Tre" White.
The 6-foot-7 wing from Little Elm, Texas, has had quite a journey throughout his young career. He began in 2018 as a freshman at Washington High School of Information Technology in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, before committing to Bill Self and the Jayhawks after the season. As a sophomore, he transferred to Cornerstone Christian in San Antonio, Texas. During that season, White started to gain further national attention, which prompted his decision to decommit from KU, reopening his college recruitment.
He then spent his junior season at Ribét Academy in Los Angeles, California (now closed), before moving on to Prolific Prep for his senior year, where he averaged an impressive 18.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game.
He graduated high school as one of the nation's top four-star recruits (alongside former KU players Ernest Udeh Jr and MJ Rice), and was ranked 35th nationally by 247Sports.
White began his college career at USC in the 2022–23 season. He started 29 of 33 games under coach Andy Enfield, averaging 9.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game, earning Pac-12 All-Freshman Team honors and contributing to an NCAA Tournament appearance.
After the season, White transferred to Louisville, a program at an all-time low after a 4–28 season under Kenny Payne. In his sophomore year, he started 26 of 29 games, averaged 12.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.3 assists, and helped the Cardinals double their win total from four to eight.
White spent last season in Champaign playing for Brad Underwood at Illinois. He started 31 of 32 games, averaged 10.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 0.8 assists, and played a key role in guiding the Illini to the NCAA Tournament’s Round of 32.
This past spring, White seized the opportunity to play for Bill Self at Kansas, and both sides acted quickly to make it happen. He now joins Kansas six years after the Jayhawks first recruited him. While the name is the same, Self is getting a vastly different player with much-improved skills.
White combines the offensive explosiveness and expertise of a guard with the size, frame, and versatility of a wing. He can finish through contact and also possesses an elite long-range shot, making him a significant floor spacer. His ball-handling and rebounding skills are exceptional, and he defends with a relentless intensity. Altogether, these attributes align perfectly with Bill Self's system.
Bill Self seemed to pivot this year, recruiting this team with a completely different approach than in the past couple of seasons. He prioritized fit and play style over subjective player rankings and big names, a shift that could prove to be one of the smartest decisions of his Hall of Fame career.
During a press conference intended to kick-off the season ahead of Late Night in the Phog, Bill Self had this to say about Tre White: "(He) has out-played everyone else (at the four spot), so that’s easy. His skill set does complement Flory really well because he’s a stretch four, where we need to have the floor spaced so people can’t just clog it up… I think Tre’s been one of our best performers so far... I think the thing with Tre that makes him so attractive is his IQ is really high… He can take what he’s learned from everybody, and he’s been well-coached, and not disregard it but utilize that in a way that we’re trying to do things."
White appears to be an extremely coachable player who is always open to advice on how to improve his game, an attribute every coaches desires in a player. He's clearly the man to start alongside Flory Bidunga in the front court and should provide the spacing that Kansas Basketball has largely lacked over the past few seasons.
After all these years, Tre White is finally ready to rep the crimson and blue in front of the best environment in college basketball!
